Many fun and exciting things are on the horizon at AHS! Entering the fall 2009 semester with over 50 registered members, at both the graduate and undergraduate level, the Art History Society has a bright future.
Some of the events that are in the works for this fall and future semesters include the advent of an Art Education/Art History Department Student Advisory Board. The AEAH Student Advisory Board would be comprised of an undergraduate and graduate student from each of the departments major fields of study, as well as a representative from each of the departments student groups; including Art History Society and the National Art Educators Association.
Additionally, AHS will have an active role in the Annual Medieval Graduate Symposium; which is organized by Associate Professor of Art History Dr. Mickey Abel.
Art History Society will schedule various activities throughout the semester, including a field trip to the Kimbell Art Museum to view Butchers, Dragons, Gods and Skeletons; an film installation by artist Phillip Haas, as well as viewing the arrival of The Torment of St. Anthony, a recent acquisition to the permanent collection at the Kimbell, this painting is thought to be the first known painting by Renaissance artist Michelangelo.
It is a great time to get involved with AHS; become a member today, and learn more about the avenues you can take to become active within the group – including running for office in this October’s upcoming election of AHS officers.
